Chef Bio

Chef Chang Lei YunChef Chang-Lei Yun brings authentic yet unique Asian food to this exciting new restaurant in Mount Pleasant. His eclectic background allows him to draw on his cooking as well as life experience to create a menu like none other in the Lowcountry. Traditional Pad Thai and Tom Kai Gai meet tweaked dishes such as General Chang's Chicken and Lobster Wontons. Born in Taiwan and raised in Malaysia, Thailand and Brazil, his palate was made sharp at a young age. He found his love for cooking while studying at Virgina Tech where he cooked for the students as well as the University President for events such as the Governor's Ball. Following in his family's footsteps of both career and home chefs, his passion for food brought him to Charleston, the culinary mecca of the south. Over the past 10 years Chef Yun has expanded his food knowledge and skill working everywhere from Mom and Pop style establishments to Relais and Chateaux properties in Virginia and South Carolina. He has never been more comfortable as he is now in the kitchen of Bambu, creating exciting dishes that are exclusively his in a place that encourages patrons to experience new flavors is a true pleasure. The intent to intrigue and delight all who eat there is apparent in every dish.  After a lifetime of travel, Chang is happy to call the Lowcountry his home.  He and his wife, Sara, met and were married at Virginia Tech 11 years ago. Being a busy chef and having a family is a challenge, but they make the most of every moment they can share together with thier two children. Todd, age 6 and Mallie, age 4 were practically raised in restaurants and can often be seen in Bambu grabbing a few minutes of family time.
